Help, why can’t I hear the songs?
You need Flash player 6 or 7 in order to listen to the songs. Most people have it and if you can see the player in the right column you have it. Otherwise it is free to download from there.
Mac users, If you are using safari you will have some trouble to listen to our demo songs. Safari is stil buggy concerning flash and dynamic website. Please use Internet Explorer or Netscape.

What is this all about ? why is martialfunk so special?
Legal downloading sites are popping up all over the place. So what makes martialfunk any different? Well we are an Mp3 label, not just a seller of Mp3 tunes. Our artists produce exclusively in Mp3 format, before they appear on vinyl or on CD. That means the only place you can get their music is on the martialfunk website.
And we only deal with electronic music. We believe we have expertise and skill in this area in terms of both artist and track selection. This means you get cutting-edge electronic music heard in the hippest places in Europe.
Sure there will be live shows, and if you cannot make it to our European tour, you will be able to catch these on the site too. Other versions and remixes will also update the site on a regular basis.

Why Mp3? What does it mean for me?
MP3 is the most popular and universal format for digital music. It is the format that people most want, that is the easiest to play freely without any restrictions.
As long as you have an internet connection and a fairly modern browser (Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla, Opera) you can access martialfunk from anywhere in the world, on a Mac or PC. Lots of bandwidth and a fast connection will accelerate time it takes to download songs.

How are tracks loaded onto the site? How can I be sure of the quality?
All our files are encoded using LAME's --alt-preset standard setting. This uses Variable Bit Rate encoding, meaning that the bit rate for any given track will vary throughout the duration of the recording. During silence it will be as low as 32kbps (all the data required to describe silence) and when the music is extremely complex it will be as high as 320kbps (ensuring no detail is missed). By encoding using LAME's --alt-preset standard setting we guarantee that at any given point the music is encoded at a rate which will ensure it is reproduced accurately e music is encoded at a rate which will ensure it is reproduced accurately (whilst keeping the file sizes under control).
*NB!* An important issue with VBR is that MP3 players can often be misleading in the way they display the bitrate - most commonly giving an average for the whole track. ]

Can I listen before I buy?
Of course. You can quickly listen to the whole track, in 30 second segments, as if flicking through a record or CD in a shop.

Is what I hear the same quality as the final Mp3 I will download?
No. The martialfunk player plays a low-quality (and thus quick-loading) 90kbps version of the final mp3.
The sound quality of the final downloaded version is far better and indistinguishable from a CD.

Can I download if I only have a 56K modem?
Yes, but you should expect it to take longer.

If the site is busy will this slow down the time it takes to download a song?
At busy times downloads may take longer, but we have put plenty of bandwidth in place for launch, and are ready to scale this up according to any increases in demand.

Technology – user issues

What happens if I find an error in the sound of the track I have downloaded?
Please let us know immediately - if there is any problem with a file then we need to replace it as soon as possible. Please email support@martialfunk.com with a description of the problem and we will get you the correct file to you straight away.

What if the download fails half way through?
You can try to dowload the track again or ask support at support@martialfunk.com.

I can’t find the file – where is it?
Sometimes browsers download automatically into My documents/ or Mydocuments/My music.

My computer does not recognise my Mp3 file. It thinks it is an excel/word etc. file
Some operating systems can't handle long file names. When the MP3 is downlo aded, it shortens the filename and loses the .mp3 extension. This leaves your computer unable to know how to handle the file, so it often makes a guess (hence thinking it's an Excel or Word file). If you rename the MP3, adding the extension .mp3 it should work.

What if I accidentally wipe a song off my hard drive?
A: Once you have successfully downloaded a track from martialfunk, the transaction is completed and the file becomes your responsibility. Make sure you backup your purchases! We place no restrictions on the number of copies you make.

Payment

Is the payment system secure?
All your payments go through the Paypal service and is secured on their servers. This means you can transact in confidence

How does Paypal work?
[There are two ways to pay for products using PayPal. One's using your credit card and the other's using your bank account.

1) Using your credit card. If you pay PayPal using a credit card then once
PayPal have succesfully charged your card they notify us. This process is pretty much instantaenious which means you can go straight to your downloads. This is the method we recommend.
2) Using your checking account. If you choose to pay PayPal directly from your bank account (they call this a PayPal eCheck), then this takes PayPal from 4 to 6 days to collect the money from your bank account. Once they have succesfully collected the money they then notify us. Only then will you have access to download your order.
Some people new to PayPal choose the eCheck payment method without understanding the delay it would cause and unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to speed up this process.]
